Ok I'm in a bit of a pickle here.
Some guy i know is offering me a very slightly used Pearly Gates bridge pickup for a rediculiously low price. But the problem is I've had my eye on a Alnico 2 Pro.
The APH-1 has exaclty everything i want in a bridge bucker. I like some of the aspects of the PGb but from what I hear it lacks much bass and sounds thin. Now i want a nice smooth thick tone that the APH delivers, but the offer is hard to refuse.
I'v got a PRS shaped all mahogony guitar, will it be able to add thickness to the PGb?
I'm a BIG fan of both pickups. If you want a warmer, smoother more vintage type tone, go for the APH-1. I have a PG set in my LP Standard and they sound teriffic. I didn't find them too bright and definitely not thin sounding (thanks Christian. If your PRS doesn't have a maple cap, the APH-1 may be a little dark, so in that case, I'd go for the PG. If it has a maple cap, the APH-1 is a sure bet, at least IMHO.
