So....who Likes Firebirds????

O.K............I AM the one TGWIF was talking about getting the custom built guitar.

For some reason I can't post the pics, but you can see the entire build done in my MY GUITARS link below.

I've been jonesing for a Firebird FOREVER....but didn't wanna jump into the Gibson QC debacle amp; I wanted something a little different.

I stumbled upon a builder in Canada ....

( from : localhost/him the specs amp; came to a VERY GOOD PRICE!!!

Anyway, the wait has been killing me....and it shipped today!!!

Here's the spec list:

Frankinstein #8220;I-Bird#8221; Spec Sheet:

Body: quarter sawn African mahogany with purpleheart top, raised center is bird#8217;s eye maple with ebony inlay on edges

Neck: straight Canadian hardrock maple with blank ebony 25-1/2#8221; scale fretboard, 22 medium jumbo .103#8221; wide, .048#8221; tall frets, graphite nut, tilt back headstock, 2 way adjustable truss rod.

Pickups: vintage 1970#8217;s (made in Tennessee) Bill Lawrence cream blade mini humbuckers, L550 bridge(11.47), L560 neck(7.86)

Tuners: Steinberger gearless 40:1 ratio locking tuners

Controls: 500k volume and tone pots with .050mf ceramic capacitor, three way toggle switch

Bridge: chrome compensated (for non wound G string) stop tailpiece/bridge

Strap Buttons: nickel plated flush mount Dunlop strap locks

Finish: three coats of Danish oil followed with two coats of pure carnauba wax buffed with a lamb#8217;s wool bonnet

I can only imagine how good quot;Smoke On The Waterquot; will sound on this baby!!!

Just saw your PM bro, and the pics...VERY nice guitar! Congrats! I've had several custom longbows made with purpleheart...gorgeous wood.

It's funny, but I've YET to see a quot;badquot; FB Studio locally. Every single one was built really well w/o the QC issues I've seen on some other Gibsons...kinda strange.

Nice. I love Firebirds and would love to own one myself. There's just something about them that I like.

No problem. After I posted my question on them I thought for a minute and then removed it. If they're NOS from the 70's, then they'd be the real thing.

Thanks Eric.....yeah, I wanted to keep it kind of simple as I thought a high gloss would've just made it too fancy schmancy amp; detract from the beauty of the wood.

I'd just swap out those minis for the ones Gibson uses in the LP Deluxe these days, as they are hotter and def 70s/80s metal approved

Dammit, if I spec out one more guitar project I'm not gonna know which one to do....lol. I have a Tele, LP Junior and now a Firebird.

Sounds really cool. What made you decide to go with the gearless tuners? I'd be worried about spending all day tuning my guitar.

It'll be safe here in Arkansas, and I won't charge a storage fee.

That thing is beautiful! I like how he took time to photo-document his work. Shows someone who takes pride in his work. I'm sure the quality is outstanding. Have fun with it, bro.

As for the tuners....to be perfectly honest, I thought they'd look cool!!!
