Does anyone know what the tone qualities of Acrylic guitars are? Like compared to mahogany or alder, etc.
I've played a couple acrylic BC Riches, and aside from being ungodly heavy, they're pretty killer. Tons of sustain, with a bright, hard tone. Seemed kinda like a maple ESP I played awhile back.
I have a BC Rich acrylic Mockingbird, and as JB from Hell said it had a hard tone with alot of sustain. Ive seen alot of people bash them around here but i liked the sound of mine. Once i get it repaired im gonna try some different pickups in it and see what it can do. Id say its pretty good for metal type stuff, super heavy however, makes my LP feel like a strat.
Exactly what I was going to say. Acrylic is really dense and heavy, and yields a bright, chimey tone. I've heard a lot of really cool tones out of them. The late Cubb Coda used a Danelectro model that was acrylic, Nile Rodgers from Chic got those cool muted tones with an acrylic Strat and I've seen Jeff Baxter use them from time to time.
