Hi guys, recently bought this little gem from ebay USA for $820 including postage. But im wondering how much im gonna get done for by UK customs. Has anybody in the UK here bought a guitar from the states or Europe and paid tax? If so how much, or did you get away with it???
Cheers very much!
Kev
You'll get hit with VAT (17.5%) and customs duty (I can't remember how much)
I think the VAT is paid on top of the customs as well as a sneaky double tax... don't quote me until I've researched a little though!
probably around 20%. I paid ?21 ransom money on a body that totalled ?80 inc shipping. It worked out as VAT something like a ?6 customs charge...
Let us know, im planning a big warmoth purchase from the states soon and that will total a bit more than $800.

Very nice!
I bought my Edwards LP off Ebay.
With shipping it was ?500 (Something like $870), all told I paid ?95 for the customs charge/VAT.
I always calculate a 20% upcharge for anything I buy outside the EU... so far I磛a always been comfortably surprised... and UK VAT is just 1% higher, so I磀 say you磀 probably run well with that Modus Operandi too

Well, i got hammered for about ?130 in the end. Pretty evil, but its a USA Floyd rose strat in sunburst for ?600 in total. No complaints here
I got charged 81 pounds for a 550 bucks shipped guitar. OUCH indeed...
Import duty amp; VAT depends on the type of goods. According to this pdf on the customs amp; excise site from : localhost/customs.hmrc.gov.uk/channelsP...CE_PROD_009989
3.2 - 3.7% import duty 17.5% VAT. And don't forget the clearance fee from the courier. Parcelforce charged me ?13.50 for collecting ?10.70 VAT on some pups I ordered from Blackrose!
I would allow for somewhere in the region of ?120 -?150
