Hello hello, I don't have much time to type this so hopefully you get enough info from this lol.I have a Squier strat, love it to death. Plays and sounds better than most of the Fender's I've played. Definately a gem. Anyhoo I'm going the single 'bucker punk style for this one. What do you suggest? It's gotta be hot, but not so hot that I can't get very, very nice cleans. Definately considering the Invader, after playing the Delonge strat
Custom!
Sorry, but we need some more info.
What are the woods used in the guitar?
What kind of amp are you using?
Also, most importantly, what's your definitionof a hot pickup with quot;very, very nice cleansquot;?

Alder (supposedly) maple and rosewood
Fender Metalhead (shaddup lol, I like it )
Very, very nice cleans: um, like the Distortion and the Dimebucker have a natural sounding overdrive to them, I want the pickup as hot as possible without giving me that overdrive sound.
Man I can't even spell Squier properly tonight lol
I'd say a Custom 5, Screamin' Demon or even a 59 would work out for you. They will all have better cleans than the Custom, Invader, and Distortion and with your amp providing the gain, will work very well for heavier styles.
i wouldnt go any hotter than the custom series if you want decent clean tones. a single pearly gates would be cool. kinda like a fat screaming tele bridge pup.

I agree. I use a 59 Trembucker in my single humbucker Strat. It's hot enough...and gets a great EVH type tone. Plenty of bottem, mids and treble for me. Mine's an alder body, maple and rosewood neck Strat too. Lew
For the death metal, I think it depends more on the type of amp you have. Most pickups should be able to do it with a amp that can do death.
1 to Lew's suggestion, thats a great pickup, I actually use it for my metal shredding, it's really clear with a gain up high and the clean tone sounds great. That pickup also cleans up nicely when you turn the volume down.
Pearly Gates!
