I recorded 2 clips of my laney with a crap mic, i was seeing how it would come out. One is a lead sound, the other is clean. Some might recognize it.

heh apparently nobody cares!
Sounded great! Even with the crappy mic. What program did you use to record your tracks?
Cubase SX. I had to add alot of bass to the EQ and some other stuff, and it still doesnt sound very clear. Of course i still havent ridden myself of red light syndrome, but Im still no recording genius, so i dont record a whole lot anyway.
I always did love the way laney's sounded for lead guitar. Don't care for the rhtyhm sounds though.
yes, one more bump.
Paganini's 5th, and Opeth's Leper Affinity .
Very nice! I liked the clean sound and the lead very much. Get some rythm clips of that beast now!
Finally! Some Laney clips! I've been looking around for them a lot, since they're the cheapest amps to be found around here. Can you compare it to anything else? Your clip was nice, but a bit too short. Can you tell more how you recorded it and with what settings?
Hmm lets see.. overall the amp was recorded with a crap computer mic (which are always crappy) into Cubase SX with major bass eq boosting and a little here and there. Im running the amp with my weber minimass clamped down pretty hard, not quite max. I ran the gain at 10 and drive at 7, with the volume just over 3; the thing cranks just over 3 on the distortion channel. The amp eqs were 1, 8, 2, 0, from bass to presence respectively, reverb somewhere around half. Anything above half on the reverb seems to just add to the length of the reverb, doesnt really put more into the mix.
Clean i recorded with the minimass off, and volume around 2 or 3, i think it was on the clean chan with the boost on, with drive at 6-7. I really dont remember the eq i used, but for simplicity lets just say they were at at 5, presence at 0. Reverb around halfway once again. The lead was with the bridge JB, the clean was with the full shred neck.
Once again, the clips do sound a little thin, especially on the bass because of the mic. The tone for the clean clip really got cut down, i dont really know if i can bring it out more than that.
You know, It's funny but all the laney clips are always pretty good. That distortion is a really nice sound. I don't know why they aren't more popular.
Not to sound like an a$$, but yea i agree really.. i mean i bought it off ebay for $500 ($1300 new!) even though i had never played or seen one in person. One of my favorite bands uses the stack version (VH100R) and i just totally fell for the tone.. its not the average (no dis intended) mesa or marshall sound, plus the clean still sounds great to me. Love the amp so far, i dont think ill ever want to sell it. Hell I bought the Tonebone hot british tube distortion pedal to see what else i could get out of it, but to be honest it didnt improve the tone at all.. i could get the same effect if i bought an EQ pedal. Im actually returning the tonebone cause i realized the amp sounded almost just as good without it.
Hell dude, Opeth doesn't even use the amp for the distortion sound! They actually get all of their gain from a GT-6, live at least. Studio it's like one track with a VH100, and one with a Triple Recto.
Well i dont want to get in a debate, but you might want to re-think that
Ah, I know...that came out weird.
I should say; Live, they get all their distortion from the Boss GT-6.

You mean they run them straight to the board?
Laney use top of the line parts in their amps, they sound terrific old or new
Nice clips man.
Must be their new looks that scares people off...I want one of those 50 or 100 watts heads.

He meant live they just use the GT-6 like any other effects pedal; guitargt;GT-6gt;ampgt;speakergt;micgt;soundboardgt;PA.
The sound i was referring to is Opeth's BWP album era, where they used the VH100R and GH100L for pretty much everything, the triple rects didnt get used until the next album.
