Modeling cabs suck! Use the heads on better cabs!

This picture of a Vox AD50VT sums it all up! How can you possibly get good tone out of that crap?

Can you say 'Cut Corners?'

I found a picture from Rock-On (Les Paul Forum). Look how he turned his Vox into a real amp! Now, that's what a Vox modeling amp should be! Pine/Birch!My solution was to just use my Valvetronix AD60 head on a Bogner or Marshall cab with Celestion Vin 30's, but I love what he did with his combo!

WOW.....well done!

Well to be fair..the 50 watter is a $350 amp...whatd'ya expect for that kind of money?

The makeover is defintiely nice...but I'm not sure I'd spend all that time and effort on a modelling amp, period regardless of price

Vox offers some of their Valvetronix cabs with cheap speakers and some with Alnico Blues, so they've got an extra level of quality, if you want to pay more. However, I think they're still particle board. To be fair to Vox....if they offered their modeling combos with cabs as nice as this, they'd double in price, most likely.

Valvetronix amps are very good 'home practice' amps, so I think it was worth his while to build the new cab. It certainly looks and sounds better, plus the guy looks like he was skilled enough to make it a 1 or 2 day project. I really like that color scheme, although it doesn't really match the blue chassis. I think that's salt/pepper grillcloth too.

Yeah Joe...thats what I was getting at. As for the tube amps w/ the blues, I've no idea.Valvetronix amps are very good 'home practice' amps, so I think it was worth his while to build the new cab. Yeah it looks great! I just think I'd spend another 200 bucks on a Avatar cab to plug into it (since the 50 has a speaker out). I personally have a hard time making a PBamp;J sandwich

That combo refit is HOT HOT HOT!

-I've moved house to a place where I can't crank amps, so the next purchase will probably be either a valvetronix or cube modeller amp...

wow. there's no way Vox would actually make an amp out of half rotten particle board.

is there?

I love what the guy did to his combo though. Much preferred to the way mine looks...

slade

Ok guys, start laughing. Literally, just now as I was reading these posts, UPS kinocked on my door and delivered my.......Vox AD50VT. Hee hee.

I knew about the particle board thing. Just gonna use it for home and will use the speaker out to a real cab to see what it sounds like through a 4x12 with V30's and G12h30's in an X pattern--although that custom cab looks incredible. Hmmmm.

Weird, but the Vox AD 2x12 matching cabinet I use with my VTX 120 head is baltic birch? These Vintage 30s I just put in the cabinet made it a heavy sucker to lift now also..

quot;Housed in classic Vox style with deep blue grille cloth and gold piping. Constructed from Baltic birch for structural integrity, it has 2 custom-voiced 12quot; Celestion quot;Neo-Dogquot; speakers created specifically for the Valvetronix cabinet. Co-designed by Vox and Celestion, these speakers utilize a highly efficient, ultralightweight neodymium magnet for accurate and powerful sound. Operates in mono at 4 or 16 ohms and in stereo at 8 ohms. Casters not includedquot;.

This cab sounds really great with a set of Vintage 30s now!

That combo turned out great! Vox's looks have always turned me off for some reason. I could definitely handle one that looked like that, though.

Woo Hoo! Got my eye on that cab for the future if I get the amp you've got or the 60 watt model. I may also just get an unloaded 2x12 because I've got a few V30's and Hellatones just collecting dust. For the price I paid for this amp, I can accept particle board for the cab because eventually it's just going to become a head anyway.

that new combo cab is SCHAAAAWEEEEEETTT!

Yeah, I didn't want to bum anyone out. These amps are really good amps, but I didn't know they made some out of birch ply and some out of particle board.
The speaker is definitely a bigger part of the equation.

I just got a great business idea, I shouldn't give away though. Make boutique styled high quality cabs that will fit all the modeling amps!! Maybe one of these days, when I'm near my dad's woodshop/garage, I'll make a killer looking headbox to throw my AD60 chassis into, just for a fun 1 day project.

I dig the stock vox look, but always felt that the gold plastic logo looked cheap.
