Last night I took apart my project strat to see what it's all about. On the back of each single-coil pickup is a black bar that has been glued on-kind of looks like a bar magnet. The pickups are cheapos, MIM fenders, I believe, although this is not a MIM strat, rather a part-o-caster.
Does anyone know what they might be and what they're for? My only guess is that they are some sort of base plates...
Thanks,
Dave

It is a bar magnet. That pickup has a bar magnet instead of the slug magnets. Lots of low end Strats and knockoffs have pickups made this way.
Thank you for the reply-I don't plan on keeping these around-until the stack plus line is available.
Take care,
Dave
I've been curious to hear what those sound like. Let us know when you get 'em!!
yes that is the bar magnet of the pup. the pup has a bar magnet and the pole pieces touch the bar.
