Difference between neck and bridge

Hi folks. I currently have two SH-1 pickups, one neck and one bridge. My Neck pickup is defective so, I am wondering, can I put my SH-1 bridge pickup in the neck position and then add a JB model to the bridge or will it sound like crap with a bridge pickup in the neck? Is there a difference between the two SH-1s?

Shane

Hi, welcome to the forum!

There is a difference between the two, bridge models are wound hotter as the strings vibrate less in the bridge position, therefore being quieter (so the hotter pup sorts things out).

I don't know what it would sound like, it may be a little too bassy in the neck, but it would match up volumewise no problem, best bet is to give it a shot, you can always take it back out and trade/sell it...

I use a JB bridge in the neck of my Jackson and it works fine

It might sound like crap, and it might sound find. Only you will know if t sounds good to you.

I think the 59b / JB combo should work fine, but maybe you won't like it.

It won't sound like crap, it will just be a tad hotter than the regular neck version. But those 59's are already low ouput, so it won't be anything noticeable and the JB in the bridge will still be much hotter. It will work fine, and should sound fine too. If you're concerned, maybe try a pull a swap with someone for a neck pickup.

If it sounds a little too warm, you could pull out the Alnico 5 mag and put in an Alnico 2 or 3...
