Wax

Can the wax for repotting pickups be found at the hardware store? Is it parafin wax?

Yup, any good harware store should have it. You need parrafin wax and bees wax. I know you can get the bees wax usually at a good hardware store and possibly you could get the parrifin also. I know you can get parrafin wax at a grocery store.

I think it is a 80/20 mixture of parrafin and bees wax. 80% parrafin and a 20% of bees wax. You could probally get away with using straight parrafin also.

100% parrafin works fine also. that's what i've used and had no problems!

Speaking of wax.... I was under the impression that ALL of Seymour's PUPs came wax potted. I bought a C5 and Jazz set about a year and a half ago and I had microphonic feedback issues until I dipped the entire pup into parafin wax. So do they come wax potted out of the factory and if so... do they just do a bad job of it?

I want the wax to pot a base plate that I am going to put on the bottom of my bridge pickup.

But, will wax potting single coils provide sheildling to cut down on computer and fluorescent light interference/noise?

Wax potting will not help your single coil issues. Wax just keeps parts from vibrating and thuss causing microphonics. For singles, do a really good shielding job and it should be an improvement.

i use candles.
