I was just looking over the tone chart and noticed something that I hadn't picked up on before - all Duncan neck humbuckers are wound to approximately the same DC resistance. Give or take a few hundred ohms, but thats part of the quot;normalquot; coil variance. A CC, C5, and Custom vary by .3k and we know those are the same.
The only exception is the good ole Distortion, at 12.7k. I knew there was something special about this pup that I liked.
(Enough so that its still the only pup in my Patriot.)
Anyway . . . I thought that was interesting.

Can the Distortion neck get decent cleans at all?
The cleans from the DDn are amazingly good. We're not talking Antiquity clean but they are definately useable. Under gain the DDn is alot of fun......
I wonder how the DDn with an Alnico II would work in the bridge?

thats an interesting thought......maybe be the slighter hotter than vintage humbucker sound that i know some players want.....a median between vintage PAF, and the Custom series

Check out this thread for a clean clip using my Distortion:

I was gonna say that I use my Distortion quot;dirtyquot;, once in a blue moon . . . but a blue moon happens about twice a month. I play dirty way less than that.
I use mine with an on-off-on toggle, to give me split/de-mud mod/full-bucker.
Works great - sounds great.

That's not quite right: quot;blue moonquot; refers to the second of two full moons that occur during the same calendar month. Because most of our months are 30 or 31 days long and the lunar cycle is only 28 (or 29?) days long, things shift enough so that eventually we have a full moon at the very beginning of a calendar month and another at the very end.
It's much more rare than twice a month. On average, it happens every year change. I think I read somewhere that we'll have 17 of them over the next 20 years.
And in 2006 (as well as some other years that I can't recall) we won't have any at all.
Oh, and there *is* another defininton for blue moon, as well as a fairly interesting etymology of the phrase, but the current usage is the one I've outlined above.Originally Posted by ArtieToo

Is the DDn wound with a thinner coil wire than the models in the PAF-range?

Cool. I didn't know that. That's what makes this forum great - the knowledge base of information.

Anyone tried a Distortion neck with an Alnico II or V? I was going to do a Custom Custom/Distortion neck with an alnico II, and maybe a Custom 5/Distortion neck with an alnico V. I've also wanted to try a Mayhem set with alnico V magnets.

speaking of, did anybody see the red moon a couple nights ago? that was really badass
The DD Neck is wound with a thinner guage wire than the typical quot;vintagequot; neck humbucker...
I believe it is 44 guage compared to the 42 guage used in the vintage ones...
It may work well in the neck, but will be thin sounding if used in the Bridge position... it would NOT have the tone characteristics of an overwound pickup with thicker guage wire...
yeah I noticed that awhile back .. it's also why I started try'n bridge pups in the neck position.
I have found that the 59b the PGb and screamin demon make ex neck pups for those who need a little more umph from the neck pos. even the JB makes a rawkin neck pup IMO
