i've tried almost everything i could do.fiddled around with the eq..use amp dist by itself, mix it with my sd-1..just not the distortion im looking for....
currently my set up is fender strat-boss sd-1-laney lc15R...
i need a good high quality distortion pedal...something that won't cost a fortune..something that will sound better than my amp distortion...
thanks
benji
Well, im not sure what tone you're looking for.
If you're looking for a metal\hard rock tone try the Hughes amp; Kettner Warp or the Zoom Tri Metal.

Get a Spina DS-1
GJ was talking about a Banzai Fireball ii sometime, it sounded cool. Give him a PM?

Wasn't that in the same thread where they ate the Tapatio hot sauce?
there are a number of ways to get a better distortion sound out of an amp.
some of the more popular ways is to use less gain on the distortion channel and compliment the amp with a Boss od1 overdrive pedal, or an ibanez tube screamer.
those will quot;boostquot; the output of the amp, youll have to fine tune it.
now if your looking for a totaly different sound, Line 6 makes a Metal Zone and a Crunch tone pedal, that are realy great, they have more then 1 setting, so you can change the distortions if you like.
the last is the Marshall Guv'nor, extremely serious pedal, and when run clean, can make your crappy amp sound as close to a marshall as you can get with out dumping over a grand in to your rig....there about 100$
You can also start posting with white text
and why on earth would i want to do that........?
bieng different is fun.....not to mention for the last 10 years on the internet i have used red text.

Back to the question: What kind of distortion do you want? Blues, Hard rock, Metal? There are lots of cool pedals out there, but they're all voiced to do different things.

Did those other places you posted have a blue background? Red on blue is hard on the eyes because the eye has a hard time focusing the two colors together.
Different is cool. Hard to read is much less cool.

It's note any better on the green version either.

oops..you're right..forgot to state what type of dist i was looking for.. anything between punk and hard rock..not metal..i don't like that buzzy high gain sound..
Visual Sound makes the Jeckyll amp; Hyde pedal. I really liked it through my Bassman. It's basically two OD pedals in one. The Jeckyll side is your basic Tubescreamer clone, while the Hyde side is higher gain, with less mids and a bigger low end. the coolest thing is though, you can use each channel independantly or together.
What amp are you using have?
try playing with your EQ on your amp dude, have the pedal's controls all at 5..
try something like -
treble 4
Mid 6
bass 5..
i think the pedal is fizzing things up a bit hehe - just have an experiment with them, see what you find..
tom
I've had this same problem... but I've discovered the answer is just to play with the EQ until you find something you like, because it can take awhile to find the tone you're looking for from your amp. I used to think the Metal Zone that I have was way better than my Randall's amp distortion, but now the MT-2 just sounds gross. I do still use it for deep downtuning though.
It'll cost more, but consider the Yellow Line 6 Distortion modeler. At least you'll have an infinite number of gain options. Or, you could just put your amp and pedals in the paper for sale, then spend some dough on a modeling amp with lots of high gain models, like a Valvetronix or Flextone II. Just a thought.
I'll usually suggest tube stuff for guys in high volume situations, but for home playing, the modeling stuff is usually your best option, mostly to get good gain at low levels.
Try this Tech21 thing from : localhost/.
Or give the rocktron silver dragon a try.
amp distotion by itself sounds a bit weak..i've stated that i've fiddled around with the eq..i still get too much of a harsh sound..
how is the marshall jackhammer?
