Hand-Held Amp Modeler shootout.

So, my family's asking what I want for Christmas. What do you get for the man who has everything (except a Marshall Silver Jub 1/2-stack - which nobody can afford)?

Why not one of those handy small amp modelers that you can take to work and jam with headphones? I'm thinking the things like quot;Pandora's Boxquot; etc.

Anyone with any experience or opionions on the various models out there? I'm guessing 200 to 300 bux.

Thanks

MF had the AmpWorks on blow-out for under $50 a while back - that would be a great unit for taking to work; I have had the Pandora PX1, PX3, and now the PX4 and the AmpWorks is based on the PX4. PX4/AmpWorks has good cleans, nice crunch tones, heavy tones can sound processed. PX4 new is like $199...

The reason I stuck with the PX4 is it has an AUX in so I run my iPod in and jam away while the baby (and anyone else) sleeps!

Thanks Dan

Any more opinions/suggestions?

The Ampworks rox my sox!

Its killer for recording. The AC30 amp; AC15 models rip. They're a bit better than my GT-8's, which cost me $450. I got the Korg for $50.

Hmmm. I have a Korg Ampworks, too, and I think that it sucks. I paid $50 for it, though, so I have that quot;what do you expect for $50?quot; mentality about it. It allows me to play after everyone else goes to bed. It serves that purpose and not much more. IMO, of course.

Bump it up. Can you help a bruthuh out?

i say get a boss br532. models on it are quite good. whips line 6 anyday of the week. a little larger than the pandora, but will alot more things.

I like the Korg Pandora stuff, personally. Sound quality, versatility, and portability. A smidge outside the budget perhaps, but hey - it's Christmas!!

Thanks Ben,

Now I have a LEGIT reason to hit the music store this weekend.

Matt, I never got that last PM you sent, btw. My inbox was full. Sorry!

No biggie, it was just a check for one hundred million million dollars.

Mini-Me took it instead and had a great time in Vegas!

I used to own a Korg PX-3. Never could get used to how awful it sounded after about ten minutes of playing...

Do you really need hand-held? If you're willing to go table-top, consider the Vox ToneLab. At $300, that's right at the top of your range.

If you like FX, the Boss GS-10 is really cool. The amp models aren't as good as on the Vox, but the FX are great. I think that might be a little bit above your $$ range, though.
