Vht Valvulator I

Any feedback for VALVULATOR I?

What were you looking to do with it?

I just want to know if how much it improves signal quality.

Depends on what it's running in front of. If you're running it straight into a tube amp, you probably won't gain much. If you use it to drive some pedals that suck tone, you should have a significant improvement. If you run it in front of a DMA or SS amp, I've heard it adds significant tube mojo.

If you were to run it alone, It adds just a touch of .......(hard to describe).........sparkle, or dimension. This is what I have found when running it in front of tube amps. It is a very subtle change, but noticable. I am not sure I would buy it for this alone. I do run it at the beginning of a LONG effects chain. I mave 2 boards, but one of them can handle almost every pedal I have. In these instances it is a must. I have 10 boost/drive/overdrive/distortion pedals alone (3 spina modded ). If I want to do a compare and contrast, I can hook them all up and and start dialing them in just to see which pedal I want in a certain situation, and not worry about signal degredation affecting the pedals tone. It also has an a, and a amp; b output. With these, one can run a parallel path setup. once you run into it you would designate one of your paths as the quot;wetquot; path and one as the quot;dryquot;. The wet being the one with the effects in it. then you can run a into a marshall and b in to a fender, or a into the left channel of a fender ond b into the reverb channel. there are quite a few options this way. Doing this with the wet/dry signal add a lot of dimension to your tone, Even if you are running a heavily distorted sound with signal A, and clean with b. it does something that really catches your ear in regards to tone. Lastly there are 4 power outlets on the thing. I don't use them, 'cause somehow I fried my first valvulator by using them. I got it replaced with a warrenty,a nd havn't used them, and havn't had a problem.

hope that helps

Oh, there are some pedals that like to run before the VHT. Namely (germanium chip)Fuzz pedals. If you run the vht into a fuzz, it seems to quot;pre-boostquot; the pedal, so it doesn't roll off as well. One can reduce teh gain, or level to compensate if they absolutely must run the vht prior to the fuzz.

Wah pedals also prefer an unbuffered input.

WOW Thanks 54 and aleclee. Soon I'm gonna have a string of FXs comprising tuner, compressor, wah, OD between guitar and amp. So I guess I should arrange them in the order of Wah V1 tuner comp wah?
